I got a sewing machine today. I used to sew a little in high school, but I really haven't touched it in years, and I would like to teach myself some basic skills again. I did a lot of browsing online and this is the machine I ended up buying:

I'm not typically a Wal-Mart shopper AT ALL, but this seemed like a good price and easy to use. I have dinked around with it a little bit, but at this point I basically just need to re-learn to sew in a straight line, lol.

I taught myself to sew when I was a teen and like you didn't sew for years. I've done a few simple things recently. It is difficult if you are good at following directions. You can also just cut and create. Have fun with it!
That's the machine my boyfriend bought me for christmas (except it's not the project runway edition), and I LOVE it! I've never had a computerized machine before, and I kind of fell in love with all the stitch functions. It made me really want to upgrade and get an embroidery machine!
I have the Brother model below that one. It's a total workhorse! They're good machines, once you get past their nuances. You'll have to tell me how the tension is on your machine after you get familiar with it. My little Brother is so touchy! I wonder if it's that way with all of them.
