My brother in law is quite literally the cheapest person you will ever meet, so when they throw things away at his work, he brings them home whether he can use them or not. That is how I inherited this black and white laser jet printer.
He carried it out to my car for me and assured me that the reason it was SO heavy is because it was full of paper. Yeah, right. After I lugged it up the stairs to my apartment I realized I probably should have googled whether or not there were even drivers compatible with Vista, because after all the thing is like 8 years old. About an hour and a lot of curse words later I got it connected and functioning. The only I have printed so far is a rough draft of a business card, which I'm a little iffy about.

I think you'll get it to work for you. If not, you can always secretly get rid of it using cragislist or freecycle.
My father is like that! Can't stand to see anything thrown away. If he can't use it he gives it to me, whether I want it or not! Gotta love their generous hearts, though!
